In terms of light and particles and Physics, black is the result of the absorption of all colors in the spectrum (which we otherwise call ROYGBIV, an example of which is the rainbow), although in Art, mixing all colors in the rainbow would result to a muddy brown. Physics and Art clash each other often like that, especially when it comes to colors, another example would be: in Art, we all know the primary colors are Red-Yellow-Blue; but in Physics it’s Red-Green-Blue, thus the RGB in design software modes such as Photoshop.
